About Absences

The absence policy at Nesbru IB follows the guidelines set by the Norwegian government. In each class, students will receive a warning if they miss more than 6% of their classes that half-year, and will not receive a grade for that year if they exceed 10%.
Each year the abscence is reset, and at the start of the second year, the percentages are halved as they then cover hours for the entire school year.

It is important to inform your contact and class teacher in advance when you know you will miss class.

NOTICE: In 2025, the Norwegian government has instituted a new policy regarding absences. As of the autumn term, and for the foreseeable future, all absences, outside of governmental absences, will count towards the 10% max absence, after which you can start submitting doctor's notes to have absences removed.

It is important to note that after you have reached the 10% limit, this does not mean that you can go back and remove prior absences with a doctor's note.

About Late Marks

When a student is aware they will be late to a lesson, it is important that they inform their relevant class teacher before the class starts. If a student is late to class, regardless of whether they have informed their teacher, they will receive a warning on their profile. After 10 warnings, the student's behaviour mark may be reduced, though this is at the discretion of the teacher and principal.

Each lesson block is 45 minutes. If a student is more than 15 minutes late, they receive an absence for the entire lesson. Students should inform teachers as soon as they know they will be delayed or absent.
